Everyone who brings a plant or flower arrangement will receive a ticket when they arrive. When your number is called\, you get to choose from the array on the table.\n \nAlso\, Margie Fitchlee is donating a lovely necklace made by her friend\, Karen Holtz for a door prize. Again\, you will receive a ticket upon your arrival for an opportunity to win this beautiful piece. Thank you Margie for your generosity!!\n\n \nNo money will exchange hands for the plant/arrangement exchange or the door prize.\n \nIf you’re uncomfortable sitting at the picnic tables\, please bring a folding chair. \nPlease remember that our COVID-19 policy requires that we wear a mask during the meeting and when you remove your mask to eat your lunch\, we expect that you’re at least 6 feet away from others. \n \nI know that it’s easy to forget ourselves when we’re with friends and get a little bit closer but it’s exactly at those times that we may inadvertently spread or catch this vicious virus. \n \nThanks to Janet for making arrangements for a great lunch from Panera. \n \nIf you would like to attend but didn’t get your lunch request to Janet in time\, please show up anyway with a brown bag lunch. \n \nA note to everyone: Please bring your own beverage.\n \nWe have a few interesting activities planned…

SUMMARY:COCKTAILS IN THE GARDEN
DESCRIPTION:Mary Jo and Jerry Davis will host our spring Cocktails in the Garden at their lovely home and garden\, 3390 Nansen Ave.\, North Port.\nOur garden has two areas that we especially enjoy\, the pond and the shade garden. The pond has waterfalls and a stream with two small stone bridges. Growing in and around the edges are Waterlilies\, Cattail\, Taro\, Pickerel\, Canna and Iris. Around the pond we have Hong Kong Orchid Tree\, Sabal and Queen Palms\, Oleander\, Jatropha\, Gardenia\, Plumbago\, Bougainvillea\, Snowbush\, Beautyberry\, Crown of Thorns\, Bird of Paradise\, Blue Daze\, Penta\, Milkweed\, Geranium\, African Iris and some really ugly Flax Lily. The paths in our shade garden meander under a canopy of Oak and Sabal Palms. Some of the plants growing beneath are Beautyberry\, Fire Spike\, Fire Bush\, Arboricola\, Dracaena\, Porterweed\, Walking Iris\, Orchids\, Turk’s Cap\, Starburst and several varieties of Crotons\, Bromeliads\, Philodendron and Fern. There’s also a volunteer Sago Palm and a volunteer Crinum Lily!\n\n

All proceeds are for scholarships awarded to college juniors\, seniors\, graduate or doctoral students majoring in a horticulture-related field. Last year we awarded two $2\,000 scholarships. This year\, we hope to award more!

Mail check and indicate meal selection to: \nChristine Glenn\n5112 Pine Shadow Lane\nNorth Port\, FL  34287\n  \nWhat’s a Yankee Gift Swap? – also called “Dirty Santa” \nSuitable for small to large groups\, adds an element of excitement and humor to traditional gift giving. \nIn a Yankee Swap\, each participant brings a wrapped\, unmarked gift and places it in a designated area. Guests are given numbers as they arrive\, or their names are randomly drawn\, and they select and unwrap gifts from the pile in that order — with a twist. \nThe person who receives the number 1 will pick a gift (that is not their own) from the pile and open it for all to see (or models it\, reads it\, or demos it). During the selection of a wrapped gift\, the participant may visually inspect the gifts\, pick them up and/or gently shake them. \nThe person who receives number 2 then chooses a gift and opens it\, and then must decide whether to keep it or swap it for the first player’s gift. Each person in order then gets to select a present\, open it and decide whether to keep it or swap it for any other gift someone has already opened. \nOpening of gifts and swapping takes place until all the presents have been chosen. Finally\, the person who picked first gets to choose from all the gifts or keep what he/she has already received. In the end\, the gift you are holding is the gift you take home. \nBecause all the gifts are wrapped or in gift bags\, you don’t get people taking the most obvious best gift or leaving the least desirable for last. SUMMARY:GIVING TUESDAY
DESCRIPTION:Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday\, Giving Tuesday kicks off the charitable season\, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving. It is sponsored locally by KDW Radioin North Port\, one of the few campaign locations in the state of Florida.\nMoney donated to the Allamanda Garden Club will be used directly for our charitable giving. We make annual charitable donations to Backpack Angels\, Friends of Little Salt Spring\, People for Trees and area food banks. We donate books to local schools and provides financial support to school gardens. Annual scholarships are awarded to college students pursuing degrees in agricultural\, botanical or horticultural areas.

Plants include Firespike\, Firebush\, Wild Coffee\, Cocoplum\, Beautyberry\, Sea Grape\, Plumbago\, Panama Rose\, Bottlebrush\, Jatropha\, Pentas and several varieties of Ginger and Gardenia\, under a canopy of Oaks\, Pines and Sabal Palms. She also has a collection of orchids. Her yard has been certified as a wildlife habitat by the National Wildlife Federation\, and she hopes it will qualify soon as a Florida Friendly Landscape.\nCocktails in the Garden has been a popular event where we get to know each other a little bit better.\nIt’s for members only and spouses are encouraged to attend.\nMembers please provide your favorite beverage.\n
