DESCRIPTION:  \nPlease join us for a peek at a Florida landscape 23 years in the making.\nDeb Dekeuleneare will be hosting December’s Cocktails in the Garden.\nI will share how I moved here in 2001\, clearcut and sodded a double lot then decided it would be best for my pocketbook and the environment to restore it back to its glorious Florida heritage. I will share much of what you will need to know to start a butterfly garden\, drive the neighborhood the evening before trash pick up to repurpose and even show you how you can have a she shed of your own. \nThe host would like\, weather permitting\, to extend the evening and light their repurposed fire pit. Sturdy comfortable and closed footwear required along with a chair and a desire to have more fun. See you there. \n“Cocktails in the Garden” is an event exclusively for members. Spouses are welcome to join. Think of it as\npart Garden Tour and part Happy Hour. We kindly ask everyone to bring a dish to share and their favorite\nbeverage. Please bring ready-to-eat finger foods that don’t require refrigeration or heating. We’ll start the\ngarden tour once everyone has gathered and grabbed a drink and a snack. SUMMARY:Success with Succulents in SW Florida
DESCRIPTION:Our rescheduled September program title is “Success With Succulents in SW Florida”. Florida Master Gardener Joyce Laubach will share information gained from her years of experience growing succulents in our area of SW Florida. The primary focus will be on outdoor growing –  in ground and in containers\, including information on optimal plant varieties\, design considerations\, tools and materials. Many online resources provide information most relevant to growing succulents in California and Arizona. You will learn that you CAN be successful in Florida\, and Joyce will help you understand how “Right Plant – Right Place – Right Site Preparation” applies to a wide range of succulent plant types. Handouts with the information presented will be provided. \n  \n  \nJoyce’s research into gardening in Zone 10A began even before the move. She excitedly anticipated the expanded opportunity to pursue her passion for succulents – being able to grow them outdoors as well as indoors. She arrived with a scrapbook of ideas only to receive some feedback from pro landscapers discouraging the use of many of the succulent plants that interested her.  Sample comments: too rainy\, too hot\, property too small! But her research indicated a path forward that she pursued – of course learning more along the way based on research\, trial and error. \nJoyce’s home is now surrounded by a wide array of succulent plants along with many varieties of Bromeliads\, which became her second love in the garden. Having identified the succulent varieties best suited to the local climate\, Joyce was able to expand beyond her own home to design succulent beds at the Punta Gorda Nature Park\, the Master Gardener Demonstration Gardens and the Punta Gorda History Park. She has delivered presentations that share her developed expertise with audiences sponsored by both Charlotte and Collier County Master Gardener programs as well as teaching a class online for the Succulents and Sunshine.com community. \nHer presentation will concentrate on the plants and techniques that are appropriate to having success with succulents in Southwest Florida outdoor gardens. She is now able to tell those pro landscapers that their original input was inaccurate as long as optimal knowledge is applied \, and she delights in sharing that knowledge with others!

DESCRIPTION:Carol Lazzeri & Frank Casey \nCocktails in the Garden will be hosted by Carol Lazzeri & Frank Casey\, 4131 Cuthbert Avenue\, North Port on Tuesday\, April 2nd  from 5:30 to 7:30.  Members are invited and spouses are encouraged to attend. \nTheir gardens consist of border plantings and an “island” garden as well as two vegetable gardens.  Lots of variety!!! \nThey would love to have you join them. \n \n \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nWhat’s Cocktails in the Garden? \n“Cocktails in the Garden” is held in a member’s garden from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. It is for members only and spouses are encouraged to attend. The host provides beverages – wine\, water\, soda and iced tea or lemonade. Four or five members co-host by providing ready-to-eat finger foods that don’t require refrigeration or heating. After members gather\, get a beverage and a tidbit to eat\, we have “the tour” – we walk around the yard while the host talks about their garden\, plants\, success\, failures and plans for the future. It’s an opportunity to get ideas and advice. It’s also a great way to have fun and get to know each other better. Please bring a chair.

The saucer\, glue\, and all materials needed to create something fun\, whimsical\, and truly unique will be included.  \n\nWe’ll provide tiles\, glass nuggets\, and stones. DESCRIPTION:Phil and Wendy Sollecito  \nPhil and Wendy’s gardens spread across 5 lots along a freshwater canal that provides continuous wildlife viewing. Phil cultivates “stuff to eat” including two areas of vegetables\, a “pinery” of over 100 pineapples\, many varieties of fruit trees including multiple avocadoes\, bananas\, grapes\, jaboticaba\, mangoes\, papayas\, peaches\, pitayas\, pumelo\, and tangerine. \nWendy’s landscapes focus on Florida-friendly flowering plants\, and natives\, plus anything she sees that strikes her fancy. With a continuing effort to reduce areas that need mowing… \n  \n \n  \n \nWhat’s Cocktails in the Garden? \n“Cocktails in the Garden” is held in a member’s garden from 4:30 to 7:00 PM. It’s for members only and spouses are encouraged to attend. The host provides beverages – wine\, water\, soda and iced tea or lemonade. We ask everyone attending to bring a dish to share. Ready-to-eat finger foods that don’t require refrigeration or heating are best. After members gather\, get a beverage and a tidbit to eat\, we have “the tour” – we walk around the yard while the host talks about their garden\, plants\, success\, failures and plans for the future. It’s an opportunity to get ideas and advice. It’s also a great way to have fun and get to know each other better. Please bring a chair. \n
