DESCRIPTION:Phil and Wendy Sollecito  \nPhil and Wendy’s gardens spread across 5 lots along a freshwater canal that provides continuous wildlife viewing. Phil cultivates “stuff to eat” including two areas of vegetables\, a “pinery” of over 100 pineapples\, many varieties of fruit trees including multiple avocadoes\, bananas\, grapes\, jaboticaba\, mangoes\, papayas\, peaches\, pitayas\, pumelo\, and tangerine. \nWendy’s landscapes focus on Florida-friendly flowering plants\, and natives\, plus anything she sees that strikes her fancy. With a continuing effort to reduce areas that need mowing… \n  \n \n  \n \nWhat’s Cocktails in the Garden? \n“Cocktails in the Garden” is held in a member’s garden from 4:30 to 7:00 PM. It’s for members only and spouses are encouraged to attend. The host provides beverages – wine\, water\, soda and iced tea or lemonade. We ask everyone attending to bring a dish to share. Ready-to-eat finger foods that don’t require refrigeration or heating are best. After members gather\, get a beverage and a tidbit to eat\, we have “the tour” – we walk around the yard while the host talks about their garden\, plants\, success\, failures and plans for the future. Dried plant material can be spray painted. \nTo make things run smoothly on the day of the show\, please pre-register your entry with Emily Panek by phone 941-786-1541 or email msemilypanek@comcast.net.   Simply give her your name\, phone number and/or email address and let her know what you’re entering.\n \nFor horticulture\, bring any of the following:   \n1) Cuttings from one or more plants in your yard (shrub\, tree\, annual or perennial) that are healthy and attractive. This can be a flower\, leaves\, or branches (no longer than 30 inches).  Just go out into your yard Thursday afternoon or evening and take cuttings of your favorite plants\, place them in water and hold them overnight in a cool area of your house to acclimate them.  \n2) Container grown/potted plants that you have owned and cared for two months or more.  This can be any healthy\, attractive potted plant or hanging basket – foliage\, flowering\, or succulent plants. The only limitation is that it must be small enough to be lifted easily by the show volunteers.  (Less than 20 pounds) Please do not bring big heavy floor plants. \nBring your entries and plants to the Shannon Staub Library Thursday morning\, March 30th @ 9:00AM.  There will be volunteers to help you identify your plant by its botanical name.  Judging begins @ 11:30AM. DESCRIPTION:Garden Party Scholarship Fundraiser \nJoin the fun at the Allamanda Garden Club’s First Garden Party Scholarship Fundraiser on Friday\, February 24th at 12:00 noon at the Morgan Family Community Center. Enjoy a light lunch featuring a variety of croissants\, fruit and vegetable platters\, lovely homemade desserts\, and beverages. The event will feature a large silent raffle\, a 50/50 drawing and surprise entertainment! All proceeds go to scholarships for students pursuing a degree in agricultural\, horticultural\, or botanical sciences. The Allamanda Garden Club is a 501(c)3. Last year they awarded $3\,000 in scholarships. \n\n Like the popular English Tea that the club hosted in years past\, this event promises to be a classy affair. Guests will be seated at tables draped in lovely linens and set with beautiful dinnerware. Wear your stylish hats and floral outfits to enhance the festive garden party atmosphere! \n\nThe silent raffle promises to be exciting and entertaining. DESCRIPTION:Flower Pounding\, also known as Tataki zome\, is the Japanese art of transferring botanical dyes from flowers and leaves onto paper or fabric by simply hammering them onto the surface. \n \nWhether you’re out foraging\, have a backyard garden\, or visit a nursery or even a supermarket\, pigment is all around us and we have the opportunity to create some beautiful\, vibrant fine art pieces just from what’s right outside of our door in our natural earth. \nEach participant will have the opportunity to create several projects that can be used for note cards or framable prints. Space is limited.  \nAll creations can be entered into our flower show on March 24th.

DESCRIPTION:Our next workshop will be held on February 3\, 2023 at 11 AM at Valerie Ollinger’s home\, 6756 Van Camp St.  North Port\, FL 34293.  Cost is $10.00 payable to the Allamanda Garden Club and sent or given to Emily Panek\, 13061 Steinhatchee Loop\, Venice\, FL 34293\, tel:  (941) 786-1541. \nThis workshop will address taking cuttings\, dividing\, transplanting and re-potting plants. Valerie will also discuss how to create the best potting mix for success. The club will supply the plants and potting soil. Everyone will bring home a few plants! \nRefreshments will be served.\nAttendees are asked to bring a chair\, small trowel\, and garden gloves. If you can bring a few 4″ or 6″ pots\, we’d appreciate it. \nTo register contact Emily. \nPlease park along the road since there’s limited parking near Val’s home. Her driveway has recently been topped with fresh gravel so it’s best to wear sneakers or closed toe shoes to walk to the house.
